I can see that being a disciple is agreeing to the terms of discipline of having and developing the character and capacity of Christ in you. To become a disciple is to be disciplined, disciplined in the nature, character and capacity of Christ Jesus. Colossians 2:6-7.
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 1Corinthians 5:17. It is coming to terms with your new personality and identity in Christ Jesus. This coming to terms requires character and capacity development in the image of Christ. And this is where the word of God comes in.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. 2Timothy 3:16-17
