Azure Resource Tags

In Azure, tags are key-value pairs that help you categorise and organise your resources, resource groups, and subscriptions. Think of tags like labels or logical folders that enable you to:

• Logically group related resources together
• Classify resources by purpose, environment, department, or cost center
• Filter and search for resources based on tags
• Apply policies and governance rules to tagged resources
• Track costs and budgets by tagged resources

You apply tags to your Azure resources, resource groups, and subscriptions to logically organise them into a taxonomy.

A taxonomy is a structured hierarchy of tags, allowing you to create a logical organization system. For example:

- Environment (Production, Development, Testing)
    - Department (IT, Finance, Marketing)
        - Resource Type (VM, Storage, Database)
